Hanley’s stellar season has made him a nominee for the Hank Aaron Award, presented annually to the best overall offensive players in both leagues. In 2008, Hanley became the 33rd player in Major League history to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in the same season. Fans can vote online until the 12th of October, and the winners will be announced before game 4 of the World Series. Last year’s winners were Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez and Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder.
The award originated in 1999 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hank Aaron, another 30-30 player, breaking Babe Ruth’s all-time home run record.
