After hitting homers in his first two at bats, Hanley was forced to leave last nights 14-2 victory over the Astros with a left shoulder strain in the 5th inning. Hanley initially tweaked the shoulder diving for a ground ball in the third inning, and suffered further discomfort in the 5th during a swing at the plate. The excitement over the win was tempered by Hanley’s injury, but Hanley is optimistic about getting back into the lineup and not missing any of the 11 remaining games.
“Hopefully, not even one game,” Ramirez said, when asked if he will miss any time. “I’m day to day. I’ll see how it feels tomorrow when I come to the ballpark.”
Hanley underwent arthroscopic surgery on Oct. 3, 2007 on the same shoulder to repair a labrum tear.
Hanley wants to help his teammates finish strong, but with the Marlins 5.5 games out of the playoffs with 11 games left to play, it wont be easy.
“This was a big win, and we’ve got to just keep going,” Ramirez said. “We can’t worry about what the other teams do, we’ve got to keep winning. What I know is we’ve got to keep winning and see what happens. We’ve got to keep doing the best we can. Right now, everything is going, our bullpen, our hitters are good right now. We’ve got to stay together all the way through.”
