Hanley Answers Questions from Fans

Q: Do you remember your first home run? (Austin, Memphis)

A: Of course I remember my first home run. My first homer in the majors was in April of 06. We were playing in Cincinnati and Eric Milton was pitching. I think it was like the 3rd pitch of the game, but he left a changeup out over the plate and I hit it out to center. It was an amazing feeling rounding the bases that I will always remember. I enjoyed it so much that I hit another home run my next time up!

Q: How often do you make it back to the Dominican Republic? (Pedro, Santo Domingo)

A: I go back every winter during the off-season. During the season there isn’t time to get back there, but I always get there during the winter to see friends and family. It’s always fun to be back there.

Q: What do you do to entertain yourself while traveling? (Miguel, Miami)

A: I listen to my ipod and watch movies and shows on my ipod video as well. The ipod is very handy on the plane rides. When we are in different cities we try to find places to play pool, but if we are tired and just hanging around the hotel we play a lot of cards.

You gave a great answer to my email question regarding your role as a leader for the club…I’ve really enjoyed the season so far and have been impressed with how you and the rest of the guys have carried yourselves…keep scrapping…

When you where a kid and growing up how much practice did it take for you to get good? And also did you know right off the bat that you would make it to the majors, or did you have to practice extra hard to get that good?

Hey, Hanley if this is really you answering our questions then i got to ask you how you do it, i mean being an MLB SUPERSTAR you can’t have a lot of time free for yourself right?

Hanley, what was your feeling during your first major league game against the Astros?

Rick | on 12/4/08

This might be a little weird but I’ve noticed the necklace you wear during games. And I was just wondering what it is? Was it a gift or did you buy it somewhere? Does the necklace have any meaning or significance? Thank You and good luck the rest of the season, keep up the good work.

Hey Mr. Ramirez. Just wanted to drop by and say thank you. I’m a huge fan and I watch you play every night/day. Just by watching you play short and you up at the plate I have improved everything about my game. I was just wondring of you could help me out with what lifts I should do or any hitting excerizes you think I should do… Thank you sir! Your amazing! Keep it up!
