His left ankle still sore after a collision at home plate on Sunday, Hanley Ramirez was not in the Marlins’ lineup on Monday vs. the Red Sox.
The 24-year-old shortstop says he is day-to-day with a swollen left ankle that he suffered after colliding with Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina.
Ramirez was tagged out trying to score from first on Dan Uggla’s double to right field. After the impact at home plate, Ramirez was tended to by the Marlins trainers, and he hobbled off the field. However, he remained in the game and went 2-for-4, despite moving around with a slight limp.
On Monday, Ramirez was given the day off.
Asked if he had flexibility in his ankle, the Marlins rising star said: “I don’t have it right now.”
After a day of treatment, manager Fredi Gonzalez is leaning toward having Ramirez back for Tuesday’s game with the Mets.
“He went to see the doctor this morning — just precautionary,” Gonzalez said. “He was in the lineup, but he came in a little stiff and we took him out. He’s going to get treatment over the course of the day, and I think he will go tomorrow.”
