Hanley takes lead at SS in all-star voting

Change has taken place in the latest All-Star voting races, and it’s benefited a couple of Marlins.

More ballot results are flooding in, and two Marlins are on the rise, with one sweeping into a first-place lead.

Hanley Ramirez has overtaken the Phillies’ Jimmy Rollins to claim the top spot in the National League shortstop vote.

After being second the past two weeks, Ramirez now is in the driver’s seat to secure his third consecutive start in the Midsummer Classic. Ramirez is the only Marlins player ever to be selected as a starter twice. Could this be year No. 3 for a player many in the game believe is one of the top five all-around position players in Major League Baseball.

The other Florida player to see his status rise is Dan Uggla, who has slid into third place after he was fourth in last week’s announcement.

A two-time All-Star as a reserve (2006, ’08), Uggla remains far off the pace of Philadelphia’s Chase Utley, who has a sizable lead.

Uggla is having a strong first half with 13 home runs. Currently, he ranks third all-time in Marlins history in homers with 134. He is closing in on the franchise record of 143 by Mike Lowell. Miguel Cabrera, with 138, is second.

The All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 13, at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.

Fans can cast their votes for starters up to 25 times at MLB.com and all 30 club sites using the 2010 All-Star Game MLB.com Ballot sponsored by Sprint until July 1 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
