It’s almost as though Hanley Ramirez turned the calendar page and turned on a switch.
The 26-year-old defending National League batting champion went 6 for 9 with three home runs and seven RBI in the first two days of May, leading the Marlins to two straight wins.
Taking two of three from the improving Washington Nationals, the Marlins won their first series in two weeks.
Ramirez shuffled through April compiling a .286 average, much like he did in 2009 when he posted a .289 average in April before going on a four-month tear.
Conversely, Dan Uggla hit .295 with five home runs this April, a big improvement over his career .236 average in April, including just .218 in April 2009.
As a team, the Marlins were hitting .266 through Saturday, which ranked seventh in the NL. They are also seventh in runs scored, but 10th in OBP, slugging percentage and OPS.
